B of M Grammar Changes

Here's a sampling of the over 4,000 grammatical changes made in editions of The Book of Mormon after 1830. Below, words in [brackets] appeared in the 1830 edition, but not in subsequent editions. These changes are no reflection on the divine nature of the translation process, for they all have nothing to do with doctrine. They simply reflect a grammatical refinement process.

samples of "they which" changed to "those who"

1 NEPHI 22:23 For the time speedily shall come, that all churches which are built up to got gain, and all those who [they which] are built up to get power over the flesh and those who [they which] are built up to become popular in the eyes of the world, and those who [they which] seek the lusts of the flesh and the things of the world, and to do all manner of iniquity; yea, in fine, all those who [they which] belong to the kingdom of the devil, are they who [which] need fear and quake; they are those who [they which] must be brought low in the dust: they are those who [they which] must be consumed as stubble; and this according to the words of the prophet.

samples of "sayeth" changed to "said"

10. And I said [sayeth] unto him, Believest thou the scriptures? And he said [sayeth], Yes.

ALMA 45:2 And it came to pass in the nineteenth year of the reign of the judges a over the people of Nephi, that Alma came to his son Helaman and said [saith] unto him, Believest thou the words which I spake unto thee concerning those records which have been kept?
